Version 0.9.7 of CitiesOnline is also available for Linux!

Distribution packages will be available soon. Until then, a simple installer is provided for those who want to help testing:

To start the installer just set the executable flag (chmod +x <file>) and run it. If you would like to build the game yourself, you can find the source code here (see INSTALL.Linux).

    Playing via the site:

In order to play CitiesOnline via this site, you have to set up your Firefox browser manually (the distribution packages will automate this process soon):

    • Enter 'about:config' in Firefox' address bar.
    • Right click and select New -> String.
    • Enter the property name 'network.protocol-handler.app.citiesonline'. Leave the value empty.
    • Restart your browser and log on to http://www.settlersonline.net/.
    • Click 'Launch CitiesOnline'. Firefox should ask you with what application you want to open it.
    • Click 'browse' and select RunCitiesOnline.sh which is installed in the root directory of your CitiesOnline installation. Do not forget to check the box “Don’t ask me again".

    Have fun playing the game!

This is so awesome. However, i cant install it with the ./CitiesOnline_Linux_x86_64.run

At 76% its  says something along the lines:

    "Fatal error

Fail to add shortcut to program menu"

(running as regular users and as root still produces the error messages so its most likely not a permission problem)

It will then erase the files it has installed...

I managed to circumvent this by copying the files installed to a different folder before press OK on the fatal error dialog...

Runs great so far on hot seat...Will try more later.

PS. Im running Debian Lenny with KDE 3.5
